Hello Fans, Followers, and Friends!!

As of Thursday March 13th, I will be teaching various photography classes at one of Southern California’s premier camera retailers, Silvio’s Photo Works in Torrance California. After many conversations with Silvio, we decided that it was time to teach basic photography in a way that will allow you to create better images with your DSLR’s or Point-N-Shoot, or even your hand held camera’s by covering the questions most raised by new, beginning and casual camera enthusiasts.

Photography is as fun as it can be frustrating, especially when you see amazing photographs and what comes out of your camera is, well lets just say not quite as beautiful as those you see elsewhere. In these classes I will be teaching how to take ‘Basic Control’ of your camera without mind numbing technical terms as well as how to look through those view finders or LCD screens to see more like a photographer or artist!

Basic Photography, It’s all about Balance!

Dates: 3/19

Time: 7:30pm – 9:30pm

In this class we will cover the pieces of exposure. These are the things that make a pleasing or emotional image. We will discuss and show examples of;

  • the effects of Shutter speed,
  • the effects of Aperture settings,
  • the effects of ISO

We will talk about how to use each of these to create the images you imagine. Don’t worry!! I promise I will do this in a way that is fun, memorable and by the time you leave, you will have the knowledge and confidence to use your camera to CREATE better photographs!

This class is intended for both New Camera Owners and Photographers who wish to get more than average photographs out of their DSLRs

Composition: You don’t have to be a Master Artist

Dates: 3/20

Time: 7:30pm – 9:30pm

What makes an image memorable? What makes an image worthy of print, display or even the family album? There are things we can do with our camera, and there are more things that we can do by simply looking, once we understand a few simple rules of art composition. Don’t worry these things are as easy as Tic, Tac, Toe and have been in use since the Masters of Van Gogh, John Constable & Monet just to name a few.

We will be discussing several rules of composition that apply to photography as much as they did to classic paintings. We will discuss what the camera sees vs. what our brain sees, smarter may not be more accurate in this case. We will talk about how to add scale, drama and emotion to your images, when and how to select the right lens for the job and much, much more.

Portraits, Candids and People

Dates: 4/17, 5/22

Time: 7:30pm – 9:30pm

Tired of getting that Piece Sign or fake smile from your subjects, I mean that Ohhhh Mom/Dad not again!!! Do I have to say Cheese!! or my favorite, Please, No – Don’t take my picture, I never look good!!

In this class we will discuss how to communicate with with your subjects, family, friends to get them to relax for you, we will also talk about basic lighting techniques, that will make tremendous, no wait, I mean TREMENDOUS differences in your photos! Learning to see or control light does not have to be difficult. You just need to understand how it plays a role in your images.

We will give you several examples and get you on your way to making even better images then ever before!!
